Do I need prior experience to become a firefighter?
No experience is needed to join. We will provide all the training, gear and classes you need to become a skilled firefighter. 

How else is South Media Fire Company active in the community?
You’ll see us at parades, teaching fire prevention tips at nearby schools, hosting events for locals at the station and various other events throughout our community. 

What makes the volunteer experience at South Media Fire Company unique?We operate with a smaller volunteer base than other fire companies, allowing new enthusiastic members to hit the ground running developing new skills and responding to emergency calls. If you’re seeking an adrenaline-rush and non-stop action, South Media Fire Company is the place for you. 

Do I have to fight fires to volunteer?
No, administrative volunteers help out with fundraising, outreach, social media and serve as the organizational backbone of our fire company. 

How much time do I have to spend volunteering?
While we prefer you attend weekly training sessions and respond to emergency calls when available, we recognize that you have other commitments or priorities. 

Will I get paid?
South Media volunteers do not receive any compensation, but there are plenty of benefits to becoming a volunteer outlined on our WHY VOLUNTEER page.  

How do I sign up? 
Fill out an inquiry form on the JOIN US page, and a member from our recruitment team will reach out, answer any questions you may have and invite you to tour the station!
