For Anita Singh and her twins, 14-year-olds Adi and Diya Ider, volunteering at South Media Fire Company has become more than community service. It has become a shared family experience rooted in teamwork, learning and giving back.
Anita first discovered South Media Fire Company through its Facebook page and was immediately drawn to the organization’s outreach and sense of purpose. Wanting to support the community while showing her children the importance of service, the family joined together.
“It’s a family here,” Anita said. “Being with the twins at the fire company feels like an extension of home.”
As an administrative member, Anita helps scan and organize run sheets as the company works toward fully digital record keeping. Meanwhile, Adi and Diya serve as cadets, where they are learning CPR, engine checks, stretcher operations and other hands-on emergency response skills.
The twins said joining the fire company felt like a dream come true after years of being fascinated by fire trucks and emergency services.
“We definitely love that mom and us are working toward the same cause,” Adi said. “It really helps us grow together.”
Beyond the training and uniforms, the family said the most rewarding part of volunteering has been the people they have met along the way.
“Being surrounded by individuals who volunteer unconditionally to the community is truly inspiring,” Anita said.
South Media Fire Company is an all-volunteer organization serving Nether Providence Township, Rose Valley Borough and surrounding communities.
